The Story Behind the Masterpiece
Handmade Sharad Purnima Shrinathji Pichwai Painting with Annakut Leela
This two-tier Pichwai follows the festive imagery of Sharad Purnima. In the upper half, Shrinathji stands before a silver backdrop, dressed in long pearl garlands with a lotus in hand. Six gopis with raised hands and a line of saffron-robed sevaks stand on either side under broad banana leaves, beneath a bright full moon and a row of vimaans carrying gods who come to witness the darshan.
The lower half turns to leela scenes: a mound of food offerings in the Annakut tradition on a lotus base, Krishna and gopis carrying pots, and a temple with domes and a peacock in a pale green landscape. A band of cows with red handprints and a pink lotus pond complete the lower composition.
A Border of Cows and Darshans
Swaroop (darshan) panels run down both sides and across the top, and the whole painting sits inside a dark border filled with white cows with orange dots and a bright floral outer edge. Painted by hand in natural colours on cotton cloth, this is a detailed, festival-specific Pichwai in the Nathdwara tradition.
A Festival Piece for Pooja Spaces and Collectors
The 4 x 6 ft vertical format suits pooja rooms, home temples and feature walls, and is especially fitting to display in the Sharad Purnima season.
