The Story Behind the Masterpiece
Handmade Shrinathji Chanwar Seva Pichwai Painting with Cow Herd
This tall, portrait-format Pichwai places Shrinathji at the centre of a devotional scene, standing on a pink lotus pedestal beneath a forest canopy. Two gopis stand on either side, raising white chanwar (fly whisks) in seva, a traditional gesture of service seen in Pushtimarg temple imagery.
Below the deity, a dense herd of white cows with decorated heads fills the lower half of the composition, leading the eye to a white haveli-style building with domes and a pond of blooming lotuses. Above, a starry night sky carries a full moon and four vimaans with divine viewers. Swaroop panels frame the painting on all four sides.
Devotional Details & Natural Pigments
Painted by hand in natural colours on cotton cloth, this piece shows the layered detailing typical of Nathdwara work: pearl and lotus garlands, patterned gopi ghagras, decorated cows and finely drawn banana leaves. The painting is finished with a bold red cloth border that gives it a ready-to-hang, traditional look.
A Vertical Statement for Devotional Spaces
At 4 x 6 ft, the vertical format suits narrow walls, entrance foyers, staircase walls and pooja spaces where height matters more than width.
