Handmade Shrinathji Pichwai Painting in Golden-Yellow Vastra with Jaali Backdrop
The deity is the entire focus of this vertical Pichwai. Shrinathji stands large in a golden-yellow jama scattered with floral buttis and an orange skirt, a pink turban with a peacock feather on his head. His left hand is raised, pink lotuses and a flute are in his right, and layers of pearl and gemstone garlands with a pink lotus vanmala fall from his neck.
Behind him is a white lattice (jaali) backdrop bordered with a yellow floral band, which makes the dark face and golden costume stand out. On the white platform below, a golden prasad box, a paan bowl and a red turban rest at his feet.
Cow Band, Lotus Pond and Darshan Panels
Beneath the platform, an orange band shows cows with red handprints, followed by a brick-patterned wall and a pond of pink lotus buds. Darshan panels line the top and both sides, with seated devotees in the lower corners. All painting is done by hand in natural colours on cotton cloth, with fine dotting on the pearl work and gold-toned highlights on the costume.
