The Story Behind the Masterpiece
Handmade Shrinathji Darshan Pichwai Painting with Cow Border
This portrait-format Pichwai is a close and quiet darshan of Shrinathji. He stands tall on a saffron-orange ground patterned with gold motifs, his left arm raised in the Govardhan pose while he holds lotus stalks and a flute. Layers of pearl necklaces, green and red stones and a garland of pink lotuses cover his front, and a peacock-feather crown fans behind his turban.
A green-and-gold floral frame surrounds the deity, and beyond it lies a rose-red border of white cows in decorated saddle cloths. At his feet on a white platform sit the traditional seva items: a golden prasad box, a paan bowl and a red turban.
Natural Colours, Ritual Detail
Below the darshan runs a yellow band of cows in pastel saddles, a brick-patterned wall and a pond of pink lotus buds. Swaroop panels close the composition on the top and both sides, and seated devotees appear in the lower corners. All of it is hand-painted in natural colours on cotton cloth.
A Focused Centrepiece for Pooja Spaces
The 4 x 6 ft size and centred deity make this an ideal backdrop for a home mandir, pooja wall or meditation room.
