The Story Behind the Masterpiece
Udaipur Grand Panorama Painting — A City of Palaces at Full Scale
This is our largest Udaipur panorama composition — a handmade miniature painting rendered at 6 x 4 feet, bringing together the landmarks of Udaipur in a single sweeping scene: the white-spired Jagdish Temple, the golden City Palace, the island palaces of Lake Pichola, and the distant Aravalli hills, all rising behind a grand royal procession. At this scale, the painting is built with greater architectural depth and a larger cast of figures than our standard panorama size, so the composition stays rich and detailed across the full width of the piece rather than appearing stretched.
A City Built Landmark by Landmark, at Full Scale
At the centre of the composition stands Jagdish Temple, its tall carved shikhara rising above the surrounding palaces — a reference to one of Udaipur’s oldest and most recognisable landmarks, standing just outside the City Palace since the 17th century. Around it, the artist layers the golden tiers of the City Palace, a scattering of island structures across Lake Pichola, and hills fading into the distance, each building painted with its own individual colour and architectural detail. At 6 x 4 feet, the procession in the foreground is expanded with additional figures and groupings, so the painting reads as a genuine crowd scene rather than a single file of figures.
Gold Detailing
Gold leaf is used across the architecture and the procession — the temple spire, the palace domes and facades, the royal howdahs, the golden palanquin, and the ceremonial flags and emblems carried through the crowd. The gold is applied last, after the full painting is complete, so it sits as a finishing layer of light across the composition.
What You See in the Painting
• Jagdish Temple with its tall carved shikhara, at the heart of the composition
• The City Palace and several surrounding palace buildings, each in its own colour and detail
• Lake Pichola with island palaces and a ceremonial boat
• The Aravalli hills fading into the background
• A grand royal procession — elephants with gold howdahs, horsemen, soldiers and flag-bearers
• A separate gathering of women and attendants, apart from the main procession
• A red border with a fine gold inner line
Why This Piece Stands Apart
• Our largest panorama format — 6 x 4 feet, built for a genuine feature wall
• A full city portrait, not a single-landmark or single-procession scene — four recognisable Udaipur landmarks in one composition
• An expanded, denser procession and crowd, proportioned for the larger canvas rather than simply stretched
• Genuine gold leaf across both the architecture and the procession
• A collectible, museum-scale piece of Rajasthani miniature art, not a mass-produced print
Made by a Team
A painting at this scale is made by a larger team of artists in our Udaipur studio over several months, with each building and figure painted individually before the gold leaf is applied as a final layer. Because of its size, this piece is made to order — please allow extra time for completion compared to our standard panorama sizes.
Size and Format
72 in wide x 48 in tall (6 x 4 feet / about 183 x 122 cm). A large, wide-format statement piece suited to a prominent feature wall in a living room, formal office, hotel lobby or reception area. Ships rolled and unframed.
