History
Today the famous temple of Shrinathji is situated at Nathdwara (Udaipur, Rajasthan). But it is necessary to understand its complete history.
Shrinathji is considered an incarnation of Lord Krishna. When Lord Indra showed anger on the people of Braj, then Lord Krishna lifted the Govardhan mountain on his little finger and protected the people of Braj. This form is worshiped as “Shrinathji.”
Originally the idol of Shrinathji appeared in Mathura. At that time, because of Mughal attacks, it was difficult to keep the idol safe. Devotees tried to bring the idol from Mathura to Jodhpur to keep it safe.
But soon Aurangzeb came to know about this and he attacked Jodhpur and tried to destroy the idol. In such a situation, the servants and devotees of Shrinathji sent a message to the Maharana of Mewar.
Then the Maharana of Mewar was informed about this matter. The Maharana proposed to keep the idol safe in his state. With the efforts of the devotees and the servants of Shrinathji, in the year 1672 AD, the idol of Shrinathji was brought to Nathdwara (Rajasthan) and established there.
